- US mission 2003: A high level information exchange mission took place in November 2003. This mission gathered 16 delegates from Europe and its purpose was to visit the major electricity industry authorities and research institutes in the US dealing with Distributed Generation: ALSTOM, FERC, CEC, DOE, EPRI-PEAC, NREL, DUA, DUIT. During this mission, a large number of activities on DG were presented by both the EU-delegation and the US hosts. The spirit of information exchange was good during each visit and the desire to set up a collaboration was apparent with most counterparts.
- Finding of the first scientific committee to start the international conferences: On the basis of the contacts from the US mission 2003, a scientific committee with participants from the US and Canada as well as one from Japan came together for a first meeting in Germany in 2004.
- Japan mission 2005: The purpose of the mission was to visit two major institutes and two pilot installations dealing with distributed generation. The mission included a meeting with NEDO representatives and a visit of the NEDO test facility, a visit to the Amagi Pasture Biogas Plant on Izu Peninsula, a meeting with CRIEPI in Komae City/ Tokyo, and a meeting with AIST in Tsukuba/Tokyo. During this mission the most important Japanese and European research activities on distributed energy generation were discussed by the EU-delegation and the Japanese hosts.
